Bone broth is becoming quite the trend, and for a good reason! As you might already know, bone broth helps stave away illness and speed up recovery time. But it also has a plethora of additional health benefits including improving digestion (from the hydrophilic acid in the gelatin), healing your gut, decreasing inflammation (from the amino acids, chondroitin, sulfates and glucosamine) and strengthening your bones (from the calcium and magnesium)! Bone broth can be eaten on its own, or used as the liquid to cook grains, make soups or even added to your daily smoothie! Enjoy a cup of broth and be on your way to EMBODY Wellness!
Ingredients:
- 5 lbs organically raised, grass-fed or pastured beef bones
- 1 gallon of water (have more on hand)
- ¼ cup raw apple cider vinegar
- 6 carrots, cut into thirds
- 4 onions, quartered
- 3 cloves garlic
- fresh parsley
- fresh thyme
- sea salt
Directions
- preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Place the bones on a baking sheet and roast them in the oven for about 30 minutes until golden brown and fragrant
- Place the bones into a large pot and add the water and apple cider vinegar. Allow the bones to sit in the liquid for an hour while the vinegar helps to pull out the minerals from the bones
- Add the vegetables to the pot and add more water if needed to cover the bones and veggies.
- Bring the water to a boil. Skim the black foam that forms on the surface and discard it.
- Reduce to a simmer and let cook for 24 or more hours.
- When you are almost finished cooking the broth, add in the fresh herbs and garlic and cook for another 30-60 minutes.
- Strain the broth and enjoy immediately or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to one week, or freeze for up to 6 months.
