Store bought salad dressings are one of the easiest ways to sabotage your way to slim. Thankfully it is also one of the easiest swaps to make. Homemade salad dressing is simple and delicious. Save yourself from hidden sugar, salt, processed fats, preservatives, stabilizers and unnecessary empty CALORIES!
Here’s how:
1.) stick to a 3:1 ratio. 3 parts healthy fat (extra virgin olive oil, flaxseed oil, walnut oil. avocado oil) 1 part acid (balsamic, red wine, rice wine, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice)
2.) a little sweet: 1 tbsp raw honey
3.) a little salty: pinch of sea salt (we love Himalayan Sea Salt) and pepper
4.) emulsify: 2 tbsp dijon mustard
5.) optional add ins: A few dashes of hot sauce, fresh or dried herbs, fresh lemon juice or capers and a bit of the brine
Shake it or whisk it.
Don’t limit yourself to using fresh dressings on salads. We use our homemade concoctions on sandwiches, as marinades and in any whole grain dish.
